What does the venue hire fee include, and what is excluded?
Venue hire includes access to the event space, an event manager, gallery security, and a cleaner. The hire is dry, so all catering, AV, production, floristry and additional furniture are excluded and must be arranged separately with our approved suppliers at additional cost.
Are there mandatory or usual additional costs besides the venue hire?
All catering, AV, floristry or decor are additional. Extra hours for event build are £1,125 + VAT per hour. Extending hire past standard hours is £1,750 + VAT per hour (East Room/South Room) or £2,500–£3,000 + VAT per hour (Tanks).
What is the process and timeline for confirming a booking?
To confirm a booking, you must first enquire and discuss event details with the Sales team. Once a quote is agreed, the space can be held provisionally. Confirmation requires acceptance of terms and payment of the hire fee.
Are there restrictions on catering or event suppliers?
Events operate on a dry hire basis for most spaces—bringing in external catering is allowed in some rooms but must use one of Tate's accredited suppliers. In certain spaces like the Restaurant, only Tate Catering may operate. AV and production suppliers must also be approved/accredited by Tate.
What are the access hours and timing restrictions for events?
Standard daytime hire is 08:00–18:00 (guest access 09:00–17:00). Evening hire runs 18:00–00:00 (guest access 19:00–23:00) with extensions available until 03:00 for additional fees. 24-hour access is only available in the Tanks with a standard period from 10:00–10:00 next day. Build and de-rig must fit within these times unless extra hours are purchased.
Are there content or activity restrictions for events (e.g., exhibitions, outdoor access)?
No privately curated exhibitions are allowed—only Tate-led exhibitions are permitted. Activities that could be misconstrued as Tate programming or display of art are not allowed.
Is there a minimum spend or package requirement for catering and drinks?
No formal minimum spend is stated, but catering and equipment comes at a significant additional cost. There are a number of different catering options such as: canapes, sliders, bowl food, dining options and food stations.
How accessible is the venue and how is load-in/load-out managed?
Guests usually access via lifts to the event floors (Levels 6 or 10). Some spaces like the East Room have restrictions on production due to small lifts, impacting scale of setups—discuss logistics in advance with your assigned Sales Manager. All load-in/load-out must occur within booked hours or extra hours must be booked.
