Frequently asked questions

The Lecture Hall accommodates up to 120 guests in theatre layout or up to 80 in cabaret style. The Council Chamber holds up to 80 guests in theatre layout or up to 32 cabaret-style. Room 1847 in the restaurant can accommodate up to 60 guests for seated events.

Reception packages start at £115 plus VAT per person including glass of Searcys English sparkling on arrival, 3 canapés and 3 bowls per person, and 3-hour unlimited house wine, beer and soft drinks. Room 1847 offers an all-inclusive package at £190 plus VAT per person (minimum 40 guests) including 4 hours unlimited drinks, 12 canapés, and dedicated bar service.

Most packages require minimum numbers: Day Delegate Rates need minimum 60-80 guests, reception packages typically require minimum 20 guests, and Room 1847 has a minimum of 40 guests. The Council Chamber has a minimum food & beverage spend of £2,500 plus VAT and 12.5% service charge for private events.

Events typically run from 08:00-17:00 for day events or 18:00-23:00 for evening receptions. The venue is closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Setup access can be arranged from 6am for larger events requiring preparation time.

The Lecture Hall includes in-built screen & projector, speakers, and an in-built stage with lectern and microphone options. The Council Chamber has in-built screen & projector. Room 1847 features in-built speakers and private bar facilities.

Provisional bookings are typically held for 5 working days to several weeks depending on the event date. For example, bookings may be held until specific dates like "17 February 2025" or "28 May 2025." A contract and deposit invoice are required to secure confirmed bookings.

Standard packages include JING tea, Searcys coffee, and pastries for day events. Evening receptions include canapés, bowl food, and unlimited drinks packages. Lunch can be upgraded from finger food buffet to hot fork buffet for an additional £10-20 plus VAT per person depending on the package.

All packages include cloakroom service with attendant, staffing, and security. A discretionary service charge of 12.5% applies to food and beverage. Room hire charges are separate from catering minimums - for example, Room 1847 has £750 plus VAT room hire plus £2,500 plus VAT minimum spend.

Surveyors House is closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Friday evening events are available as an alternative to weekend bookings, with packages like Room 1847 available from 19:00-23:00 on Fridays.

The Lecture Hall and Council Chamber can be hired together, with guests enjoying refreshments in the adjoining Council Chamber during day events. Combined hire allows for separate presentation and networking areas. Pricing varies - Day Delegate Rates include both spaces, while evening events may have separate room hire charges.
