The pier was originally built to provide a new port of call for merchant shipping and served as a departure point for sailing tours of the Kingdom of Fife and other local coastal attractions. Although the pier was destroyed in a storm in 1898, the heavy stone land-anchor, which forms the westward end of the bar, is the last remnant of the pier. The building, which was once a ticket office for the Trinity Pier Ticket Booking office, has been transformed into a well-frequented seaside bistro with stunning views of the Firth of Forth. The Old Chain Pier is open from Monday to Sunday, with varying opening hours, and offers a reduced menu in the lead up to a planned closure on the 15th of January.
