Lady Spencer’s Room

From From £13,781.00 / Minimum Spend

Lady Spencer’s Room is an exquisite salon 'fitted up with all possible taste', originally described as Lady Spencer’s Dressing Room. It serves as a private salon for entertaining friends and displaying fine art collections. The room can accommodate up to 36 guests for seated dining or function as an intimate dining space for smaller parties. Lady Spencer’s Room features matching silk wall hangings with crimson silk damask specially woven for Spencer House. The ceiling design is inspired by the Baths of Augustus in Rome, and the room showcases a hanging system for paintings designed by James Stuart. With a rich history of use as an executive office and meeting room, Lady Spencer’s Room underwent restoration in the 1980s, preserving its original features and intricate carvings.

The Staircase Hall

From From £2,654.00 / Minimum Spend

Visitors enter Spencer House through the impressive Entrance Hall to be met with a larger-than-life marble sculpture of the Roman emperor Lucius Verus. With its paved flooring, stone chimneypiece, and muted colour scheme, this room is designed to feel more like an extension of the house’s exterior than an interior space. The frieze around the top of the room is copied from the ancient Temple of Vespasian and Titus in Rome, featuring instruments of sacrifice and war. The oval plaster cast above the chimneypiece represents Antinous, the favourite of the Emperor Hadrian. The chimneypiece is one of only two originals left in the State Rooms. The doorcases are also original, but the ceiling was probably remodelled in the Victorian era. The mahogany storm porch was another nineteenth-century addition.
