Drinks reception costs £22 + VAT per guest (beer, wine, soft drinks and nibbles) with a 70-person minimum. Three-course dinner with half bottle of wine costs £70-74 + VAT per person with a 70-person minimum. Garden events require a minimum spend of £69 + VAT per guest.
What is the minimum booking threshold and when do they decline events?
The venue has a minimum quote threshold of £2,000 + VAT for bookings. Events with budgets significantly below this amount are typically declined, as seen with multiple enquiries being turned away due to insufficient budget.
What garden party packages are available and what do they include?
Two 3-hour packages are offered: BBQ Party Package and Pizza Package, both including 3-hour unlimited drinks (beer, wine and soft drinks). The garden and medicinal garden space costs £2,500 + VAT with a minimum spend of £69 + VAT per guest.
What are the venue's restrictions and prohibited items?
Inflatables are not allowed in the garden. The venue requires advance approval of event topics to ensure they align with Royal College of Physicians values. Tickets cannot be sold at the door and must be pre-ordered for events.
When is the venue closed and unavailable for bookings?
The venue is completely shut during the entire month of August for soft refurbishment. However, Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th August 2025 are available as exceptions for garden events.
What are the access times and additional charges for early setup?
Events typically have access from 6pm for evening functions. Earlier access from 5am is available at £250 + VAT per half hour. Overnight setup after 11pm is available subject to application with costs quoted separately.
How does the booking hold process work?
The venue offers first option holds on dates. If another enquiry comes in for the same space, clients have 48 hours to make a decision or their booking moves to a second option waitlist.
What spaces can be combined for drinks receptions and dining?
Popular combinations include Council Chamber for drinks reception (£1,000 + VAT) followed by dinner in Dorchester Library (£2,000 + VAT). Lasdun Hall can also be used for drinks receptions before moving to other dining spaces.
Are daytime bookings available and what are the limitations?
The venue explicitly states they cannot offer daytime bookings for certain spaces. Most events appear to be evening-focused, with access typically starting from 6pm rather than during standard business hours.
