Frequently asked questions

Illuminate (levels 4 & 5) costs £20,250 + VAT for full day hire from 07:00-23:30. This is dry venue hire only, meaning all catering, furniture, and AV must be provided by the museum's accredited suppliers at additional cost. The space spans two levels offering both natural light with City views and a cutting-edge LED-focused environment.

All catering, AV, and additional services must be provided by the Science Museum's accredited suppliers. White Light handles AV with minimum spends starting around £5,000-£6,000, while Moving Venue provides catering with minimum spends around £5,000-£6,000. Twilight Trees handles decorative elements for events like Christmas parties.

Flight gallery accommodates up to 400 for seated dinner or 350 with a stage, costing £16,250 + VAT. The Smith Centre includes multiple rooms (The Salon, Large meeting room, The Boardroom, outdoor courtyard) with banqueting chairs and cluster furniture included, starting from £4,500 + VAT for daytime hire.

Standard access is from 07:00 for setup, with guest arrival typically from 09:00. All guests must be offsite by 23:30 for evening events or 22:00 for some spaces. Early access fees of £500 + VAT may apply for supplier setup before standard access times.

For 300 guests, expect around £30,000 total budget including venue, catering, and AV. Venue hire rates start at £4,500 + VAT for smaller spaces, with larger spaces like Illuminate at £20,250 + VAT. Catering typically runs £55-£75 per person depending on requirements.

Events require signed contracts before venue hire invoices can be raised. For events within two weeks, site visits must be completed by Wednesday with contracts signed by end of Thursday. Agency commission of 10% is offered on venue hire only (not AV), payable within two months of the event date after all invoices are settled.

White Light provides all AV services including projectors, screens, microphones, lecterns, lighting, and sound systems. They offer bespoke lighting designs and state-of-the-art sound for events. Minimum AV spends typically start around £5,000-£6,000, with final costs confirmed after site visits.

Moving Venue and Benugo provide all catering services with options ranging from buffet lunches to three-course plated meals. The venue is dry hire only, so no outside catering is permitted. Catering costs typically range from £55-£275 per person depending on menu selection and service style.

Events must be invitation-only with registered guest arrival. The venue requires details about event advertising and whether it will be a seated or standing format. Some spaces have specific capacity limitations when stages are required, and all events must comply with the museum's accredited supplier policy.

Mastercard is accepted with no additional fees, but American Express is not accepted. All pricing is subject to 20% VAT. Venue hire invoices are only raised after contracts are signed, and full payment terms are established during the booking process.
