Supporting Culture: Japan House

Japan is an exciting, booming country; with 2.6 million visitors in 2018. It is only set to become bigger and better, with the 2020 Olympics being held in Tokyo. Indeed, tourism to Japan is booming - but what about those that want to experience Japanese culture a little closer to home?

Japan House

Japan House is the cultural home of Japan in London. Located in beautiful Kensington, it presents the very best of art, culture, design, innovation, gastronomy and technology. The venue is part of a global initiative led by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs to deepen our understanding and appreciation of all that Japan has to offer.

The venue can be hired out for private events that support or promote Japanese culture, with three distinct spaces available; The Hall, The Tatami, and The Library. Each venue space is minimalist, and echoes the vibe that many associate with Japanese interiors.

The Hall is a flexible, multi-purpose space that is situated on the lower levels of the venue. It is minimalist with bright white walls and exposed industrial ceilings, providing a flexible blank canvas for any event. With retractable black seating the Hall is designed so that you have complete control over the appearance and feel of the space. A plethora of events can be hosted in this space, from conferences, to live performances and film screenings. There is room for 130 people standing, and 100 people as dinner guests.

The Hall

The Library is an ideal pop-up venue-an intimate space that is able to host up to 20 people. Meetings, workshops, talks, and tastings all work particularly well in this room, with an 84” television screen and all AV taken care of for seamless presentations. Again, it is very minimalist in design, with white walls, and simple furniture, this makes it easy to make the space your own, be inspired and creative.

The Library

Finally, the Tatami Room is the smallest venue available, and it is perfect for those hosting an intimate dinner. Available for up to eight guests, this space echoes Japanese culture. In authentic Japanese style, this space also features a display alcove showcasing art objects related to the temporary exhibition in the Gallery. The space features a large wooden table that is central to the room, and is surrounded by wooden benches, where guests can relax and immerse themselves in the Japanese culture.

Tatami Room

Japan House is the perfect venue for those who want to support and learn more about Japanese culture, and in turn  It is not just inspired by Japan - it is set to inspire others by Japan, and that should be the focus of the venue.
