The pier was originally built to provide a new port of call for merchant shipping and served as a departure point for sailing tours of the Kingdom of Fife and other local coastal attractions. Although the pier was destroyed in a storm in 1898, the heavy stone land-anchor, which forms the westward end of the bar, is the last remnant of the pier. The building, which was once a ticket office for the Trinity Pier Ticket Booking office, has been transformed into a well-frequented seaside bistro with stunning views of the Firth of Forth. The venue offers a unique and historic setting for events, meetings, and gatherings, with the best views of the Firth of Forth in Edinburgh. The Old Chain Pier is open from Monday to Sunday, with varying opening hours, and offers a reduced menu in the lead up to a planned closure on the 15th of January. Unfortunately, the venue does not take bookings over the phone, but reservations can be made through their website.
