When I was offered the chance to get away from the hustle bustle of the City and explore the picturesque Surrey countryside - I couldn't resist. The Handpicked Hotels brand have a number of country houses across the UK and the opportunity came up to experience Nutfield Priory Hotel & Spa.
I took a direct train from London Bridge - Redhill and caught a taxi from the station to the hotel. The taxi pulled into the hotel's long drive which is surrounded by 12 acres of garden and this was slowly building anticipation to see what is at the top of this drive. At the top of the hill, you see the Victorian mansion, with its Neo-Gothic architecture and the cobblestone walls of the Priory, you can tell it was inspired by the Palace of Westminster.
I checked into the hotel and I headed straight up into my suite going past original features, fine artwork and a gorgeous fireplace. As soon I opened the doors, my eyes went straight to the window where floods of natural daylight streamed through and the views over the countryside were breathtaking.
It was a beautiful summer's night as I headed down to drinks in The Library, that looks exactly as you’d imagine in a house that dates from the 1800's, with oak panels, books from the time period and luscious sofas.
I would highly recommend this as an away day where you can escape with your team for a conference or training followed by dinner and drinks.
