The Cavendish Room is an elegant, multi-purpose event space perfect for conference dining or exhibitions. It is located on the ground floor close to the auditoriums, making it fully accessible to wheelchair users. The Cavendish Room can host up to 200 people in a range of styles and formations, making it perfect for corporate dinners, buffets, and banquets. It is also used as a separate catering area if you're having a conference in one of the lecture theatres. This room has beautifully slanted windows lined along the back wall to allow natural daylight to floor the space.




Frequently asked questions

Max Rayne Auditorium costs £3,190 for 4 hours (theatre style, 146 capacity) with complimentary Atrium catering space. Dame Deirdre Hine room is £990 per day (36 classroom capacity). Heritage Centre is £440 per day (17 boardroom capacity, temperature controlled at 20°C). All spaces have minimum catering requirements: 90 people for auditorium events, 15 people for smaller meeting rooms, with catering charged per person per serving.

The venue operates during standard business hours with evening availability from 6:30pm to 10pm maximum. Service ends at 10pm to allow guests to wind down for departure. Events cannot run past 10pm and the venue is closed on certain dates throughout the year.

Standard catering includes tea/coffee with biscuits (£4.30pp), Danish pastries and fruit (£6.00pp), working lunch (£26.25pp), and canapés (£23.00 for 6 per person). Drinks include house wine (£25.50 per bottle), beers (£5.00 per bottle), and soft drinks (£2.00 per can). External food and drink are not permitted in the venue.

Max Rayne Auditorium includes projector, 2 handheld microphones, 2 lapel microphones, and lectern. Additional equipment available for hire includes laptops (£150), video conference kits (£90), PA systems (£250), AV technician support (£950), and hybrid streaming packages (£1,000-£3,240). LCD screens are included in most meeting rooms.

All quotes are valid for 5 days only. The venue does not automatically hold space when providing quotes - you must specifically request a temporary hold. Site visits can be arranged to check room suitability before booking, and it's recommended to do so for larger events.

Max Rayne Auditorium holds 146 theatre style, Wheatley Room accommodates 72 cabaret/80 theatre/38 boardroom, and Marcus Beck Library fits 30 in fixed U-shape. For drinks receptions, Max Rayne Atrium holds up to 400 standing. Weekend bookings require a minimum spend of £3,000 plus VAT.

The Heritage Centre is temperature controlled at exactly 20°C to preserve antique books and this cannot be altered. Some rooms have ethernet ports available for live streaming equipment. The venue requires confirmation of exact event timings as they operate within specific hours and cannot accommodate requests outside opening times.

Day Delegate Packages range from £93-£115.20 per person plus VAT depending on the day of the week, with minimum 180 delegates required. Packages include room hire, registration desk, cloakroom, AV technician, arrival refreshments, mid-morning and afternoon breaks, hot/cold buffet lunch, standard AV equipment, and Wi-Fi access.
