The Canterbury and York Rooms are used by the Archbishops of Canterbury and York respectively during the General Synod.

Each of the rooms is full of history and well-suited for private meetings interviews, one-to-one discussions, hybrid meetings and workshops. The rooms are often used as breakout spaces or, as an organiser's office for corporate and association events.

The rooms offer plenty of natural daylight, full wheelchair accessibility, WiFi, and hard-wired interconnectivity with all other rooms.




Frequently asked questions

Minimum venue hire is £8,000 ex VAT for weekend bookings. Catering has a minimum spend of £69.50 per person with a minimum of 250 guests (£17,375 total). For smaller events, there's a minimum catering spend of £2,500 ex VAT for 100 guests, and some quotes show £41.50 per person minimums depending on the event size.

Main spaces include the Assembly Hall (main conference space), Hoare Memorial Hall (catering/exhibition space for 250 standing), Harvey Goodwin Suite (180 theatre/main conference space), Bishops Partridge Hall (150 standing), and Convocation Hall (100 theatre). Multiple spaces can be combined - the DDR package includes Assembly Hall, Hoare Memorial Hall, Bishops Partridge Hall, and Harvey Goodwin Suite together.

The DDR costs £59,400 ex VAT for 500 guests (£118.80 per person) and includes room hire of Assembly Hall, Hoare Memorial Hall, Bishops Partridge Hall & Harvey Goodwin Suite from 08:30-17:00, arrival refreshments (tea, coffee, Danish pastries, juice), mid-morning refreshments, mid-afternoon refreshments, and a two-choice standing fork buffet lunch. Minimum 330 guests required.

Assembly Hall AV package costs £3,995 ex VAT and includes 4K laser projector, 5.6m x 3.15m screen, 8-speaker sound system, laptops, stage lighting, microphones, and engineers. Harvey Goodwin Suite AV is £2,330 ex VAT with LCD projector, screen, sound system, and lighting. Convocation Hall AV is £1,525 ex VAT with 95" LED screen and basic audio setup.

Standard event hours are 08:30-17:00, with some events extending to 18:00-19:00 for drinks receptions. Evening setup access is available the night prior (typically 18:30-21:30) for £11,940 ex VAT, with venues cleared by 22:00. Event and AV crew can access from 6:30am on event day for setup.

The venue gets fully booked well in advance, with multiple dates in 2025 already unavailable including September 23rd, October 21st, and June 26th. Popular dates fill up quickly, so flexibility with dates is recommended. The venue actively suggests alternative dates when preferred dates are unavailable.

Individual catering options include hot fork buffet with three tea/coffee servings at £52.00 ex VAT per person, full catering with breakfast and multiple breaks at £65.50 per person, and drinks receptions from £29.50 per person. Traditional afternoon tea and various breakfast options are available, with minimum spends varying by event size.

The venue accommodates conferences, award ceremonies, Christmas parties, boxing events, and filming enquiries (handled by a separate contact). Weekend bookings have higher minimum spends. The venue is fully accessible and offers site visits for potential clients to view spaces before booking.

Initial contact is made through sales executives who provide detailed proposals with space allocations and pricing. Site visits can be arranged (typically at 11am) where clients meet with sales staff at the welcome desk. Proposals are customized based on specific requirements, with options for different room combinations and catering packages.

Multi-day events are accommodated with DDR rates applying per day. Two-day conferences show costs around £49,500 ex VAT for the DDR portion for 500 guests. Setup access the evening prior is charged separately, and different room combinations can be used across multiple days depending on requirements.
