The Reading Room is perfect for private dinners because the room has a wonderful high ornate ceiling, a central chandelier, large windows and a stunning view of the Mall over to Horse Guards Parade. The alcove section in the Reading Room is perfect for a pre-dinner reception and the main space can either be a boardroom dinner or on our round tables.



Frequently asked questions

Venue hire rates vary by space and day: Reading Room costs £1,700-£1,900 VAT exempt, Council Room £1,400-£1,750 VAT exempt, and Barnard Room £1,400-£1,750 VAT exempt. Weekend rates are higher than weekday rates. All bookings include access from 15 minutes before your hire period starts, and supplier access is available from 12pm for wedding bookings from 2pm.

The Council Room seats up to 70 guests for dinner, the Beatrice Webb Room seats up to 100 guests (the venue's maximum seated capacity), and the Music Room alone is too small for dinner service requiring an additional room. For events over 100 seated guests, dinner must be split between multiple rooms like the Beatrice Webb Room and Radhakrishnan Room.

There's a minimum evening spend of £1,000 + VAT for all dining events. Three-course dinners cost £66.50 + VAT per person, with wine packages at £17-£27 + VAT per person. Welcome drinks start at £8 + VAT per person for prosecco, and pre-dinner canapes are £17.50 + VAT per person for three pieces.

Standard evening hire runs from 2pm until midnight for weddings, or 6pm-10pm for dinner events. Additional hours after 10pm cost £500 VAT exempt per hour, and late catering service after 11pm incurs a £300 + VAT per hour fee. Early catering service before 8am also costs £300 + VAT per hour.

All catering must be provided by the venue's in-house partner Searcys - no external caterers are permitted. For other services, the venue has approved supplier lists for Audio Visual, Production, and Floristry, and use of any third-party suppliers outside these lists must be agreed in writing by the venue.

A 50% deposit invoice is sent upon receipt of the signed hire agreement. You must wait to receive the invoice before making payment as you'll need to quote the invoice number. If a PO number is required, it must be provided before the deposit invoice is generated to avoid booking confirmation delays.

The venue offers a £1,000 discount on venue hire for weddings taking place in October or November 2025. For last-minute bookings, discounts of up to 20% on venue hire may be available. December bookings operate on a first-to-confirm basis due to high demand.

The Festive Dinner & DJ package costs £145 + VAT per person (minimum 55 guests) and includes: 1 glass of sparkling wine on arrival, 3-course dinner, ½ bottle of house wine per person, unlimited mineral water, tea/coffee and mince pies, post-dinner nibbles, shared manned cloakroom, poseur tables and linen, Christmas crackers, cash/account bar facilities, festive background music, and DJ from Blank Canvas Entertainment.

Searcys can provide vegetarian/vegan options as standard with all menus, and can create bespoke South Asian inspired menus upon request. However, the venue notes they are not specialized in South Asian catering. Halal catering options are also available through Searcys.
