Brighton Museum & Art Gallery began life in 1861 in a few rooms at the Royal Pavilion. This early museum soon outgrew the palace and Brighton made ambitious plans to create a larger and more impressive museum, in 1873 it moved to its present site. Although it occupies land that was formerly used as part of George IV's stable complex, the building was built especially for the museum. Indeed it was one of the first purpose built museums in England. 
With eclectic gallery spaces across two floors, your reception can take over the whole building. Or host an intimate dinner in our Fine Art spaces.

We opened our store with a desire to do our own thing after too many years of working in retail and hospitality jobs across the city.

UNDERSTORY is a plant shop in Kemptown, Brighton and Hove, which emerged out of a partnership between a florist and a kitchen gardener (who also has a talent for not killing houseplants).

We stock an ever-changing selection from large statement pieces, to hanging and trailing plants, to easy-care mini succulents and cacti that are perfect for any tiny Brighton home.

and dinner, as well as for drinks and canapé receptions for up to 40 guests. Hidden away towards the back of the main restaurant, The Tidal Room provides the perfect solace away from the bustle of The Lanes in lively Brighton.

Colourful vintage prints adorn the walls, inspired by the heritage of The Royal Pavilion and Brighton's story of origin as a fishing village. The room is perfect for private parties, birthday celebrations or corporate breakfasts.
