LGBT+ History Month in February each year is a month-long observance of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender history, and the history of gay rights and related civil rights movements.

In this eye-opening session, you'll hear the story of an inspirational figure in the history of LGBT+ rights, and learn how they made a transformative difference in the struggle for equality.

Choose from:

  • Stormé DeLarverie: Known as the ‘Rosa Parks of the gay community’, Stormé DeLarverie is known for having started the fight back against the police during the Stonewall riots of 1969, an event that helped define a change in LGBT+ rights activism.
  • Andy Warhol: the famed American artist who was a leading figure in pop art, and lived openly as a gay man before the gay liberation movement
  • Harvey Milk: American politician and the first openly gay elected official in California who, shaped by his experiences in the counterculture of the 1960s, campaigned for gay liberation until his assassination in 1978
  • Gore Vidal: the American writer who wrote in favour of sexual freedom and equality, and against prejudice. His ‘The City and the Pillar’, published in 1948, was one of the first modern gay-themed novels.
  • Gibert Baker: Artist, gay rights activist and designer of the rainbow flag in 1978, widely associated with LGBT+ rights.
  • Alan Turing: Mathematician who helped crack the ENIGMA code, and whose eventual pardoning in 2013 led to new legislation pardoning all gay men historically prosecuted under gross indecency laws.

And many others.

Sessions are 45-60 minutes long, and we encourage questions and active participation in discussion. Your team will leave with a sense of hope and optimism inspired by stories of real change.
