Spaces at Somerset House

The Portico Rooms is one of our most popular venue hire spaces, offering balcony views for guests over both The Edmond J. Safra Fountain Court and the River Thames. This network of four elegant 18th century, blank canvas spaces can be adapted for any style of event. We've previously hosted press days, meetings, conferences, receptions, dinners, wine tasting, exhibitions and a wide range of other gatherings.

The Navy Board Rooms are available for day conferences, product launches and workshops, which offers a beautiful location for an inspiring day.

The Seamen's Hall is a beautiful space, with access to a part of the River Terrace which makes it ideal for summer dinners. With grand, elegant windows and views onto the river and the courtyard, it is a unique and special place. The Seamen's Hall is open to the public during the day, and is available for private hire from 6pm.

The photography and filming opportunities in the Edmond J. Safra Fountain Court are second to none. A majestic palladial backdrop and ambience steeped in history lends Somerset House perfectly to photoshoots and filming of all kinds. The River Terrace is one of Somerset House's most exclusive outdoor spaces with beautiful views of the building's 18th Century facade and across the Thames to the Southbank. Included in our venue hire is the use of our 'Jumbrellas' which cover part of the River Terrace, and the Seamen's Hall (200 capacity) as the wet weather option. Sit back and relax, we will do all of the hard work for you. In addition for your venue hire you can choose from the following bespoke options to create the perfect, all-inclusive Summer Package.

The Lightwells at Somerset House are great for filming, as the doorways imitate a real Victorian street, and the atmospheric ambiance makes it ideal for shooting impressive photos and scenes. The Deadhouse too is perfect for horror film shooting, or anything requiring a dark, interesting place steeped in history.

The ideal venue to host an Art Exhibition, with direct access from the Edmond J.Safra Fountain Courtyard the opulence of the entrance is a great addition to any event.

The Lancaster Room can accommodate up to 100 on round tables across all of the inter-connecting rooms.

In the Embankment Galleries, the whole venue can hold 800 for a standing reception. Our Mezzanine level can seat up to 340 for a dinner on rounds or 192 on a long table, and our East and West Galleries can hold around 300 standing in each space. Originally a barrel-vaulted bargehouse linked directly to the River Thames, the Embankment Galleries are now our most modern and adaptable events space. Spread over the ground floor and Mezzanine level of the South Wing, this network of rooms host annual exhibitions but as of September 2017 - February 2018 it is also available for private events.

Located on the first floor of the South Wing, the Portico Rooms are a spacious and versatile suite of rooms offering a contemporary and exclusive location for your meeting. Included in your hire are two private balconies, which offer uninterrupted views of our famous Courtyard on one side and the River Thames on the other, providing a truly inspiring setting. Venue hire starts from £2,500+VAT with catering and AV at an additional cost.
