Spaces at Somerset House


The Portico Rooms is one of our most popular venue hire spaces, offering balcony views for guests over both The Edmond J. Safra Fountain Court and the River Thames. This network of four elegant, 18th century, blank canvas spaces can be adapted for any style of event. We've previously hosted press days, meetings, conferences, receptions, dinners, fashion shows, wine tastings, exhibitions and a wide range of other gatherings.


The Navy Board Rooms offer flexibility and different spaces for pop-up shops and distributions, product launches and presentations. The team are on hand to help your pop-up dreams become a reality, and will try their best to accommodate requests of all kinds. Flooded with natural light and with stunning river and courtyard views, The Navy Board Rooms are the perfect backdrop for your pop-up.


The Seamen's Hall is a beautiful space, with access to a part of the River Terrace which makes it ideal for corporate events. With grand, elegant windows and views onto the river and the courtyard, it is a unique and special place to make your wedding day one to remember. The Seamen's Hall is open to the public during the day, and is available from 6pm.


The photography and filming opportunities in the Edmond J. Safra Fountain Court are second to none. A majestic palladial backdrop and ambience steeped in history lends Somerset House perfectly to photoshoots and filming of all kinds. Please enquire through Hire Space for any specific and bespoke requests.


The River Terrace at Somerset House can be rented completely separately, or combined with The Seamen's Hall. We are no longer able to erect temporary structures on the River Terrace, we can provide 'jumbrellas' for clients as an alternative. With hire of the River Terrace, clients will also hire the Seamen's Hall as a wet weather option, which can accommodate up to 200 standing reception. The River Terrace can accommodate up to 500 guest standing reception.


The Lightwells at Somerset House are great for filming, as the doorways imitate a real Victorian street, and the atmospheric ambiance makes it ideal for shooting impressive photos and scenes. The Deadhouse too is perfect for horror film shooting, or anything requiring a dark, interesting place steeped in history.


Accessed directly from The Edmond J. Safra Fountain Court, the East Wing offers an array of options for private events. These exclusive, interlinking rooms are primarily used for exhibitions as part of Somerset House cultural programme however, throughout certain times of the year, they can be hired for private events. The East Wing is the perfect location for a boardroom meeting, intimate conference, tradeshows or launch event.


The Lancaster Room can accommodate up to 100 on round tables across all of the inter-connecting rooms.


The River Rooms are a suite of blank canvas rooms situated in the New Wing, with a creative and artistic feel to their visual appearance. The rooms are open plan, and traces of former tenants, exhibitions and experiences can be seen faintly on walls, which are highlighted by custom-built lighting track across all rooms. The look is completed with dramatic original fireplaces and exposed brick archway. This venue is best suited for fashion enquiries or clients seeking an exhibition or for a product launch space.

It is the ideal riverside location for a special event of any kind, with twelve venues for hire for both corporate and private events.

Capacities range from 8 to 1,500 guests including conferences, dinners, lunches, drinks receptions to product launches and filming.
