What are the room hire rates for the different event spaces?
The Midland offers several event spaces with varying rates: Fairclough Suite at £300, Derby Suite at £500, Houghton Suite at £300, and the Alexandra Suite at £12,000 (based on June 2025 pricing). The Alexandra Suite is the largest space accommodating up to 700 theatre-style or 400 cabaret with stage and dancefloor. All rates are exclusive of VAT.
What are the capacity limits for the Alexandra Suite in different layouts?
The Alexandra Suite can accommodate: Theatre 700, Boardroom 120, Cabaret 400 (tables of 10), 300 (tables of 8), 200 (tables of 6), Classroom 350 (3 per table) or 200 (2 per table), Banqueting 500 (rounds), 450 (with stage), 400 (with stage and dancefloor), U-shape 100, and Standing 700. The space benefits from an adjoining bar area and additional foyer space.
What are the Day Delegate Rate packages and what do they include?
Full Day DDR costs £48-58 per person and includes main meeting room from 8am-5:30pm, 3 refreshment breaks with snacks, networking buffet lunch, standard LCD projector and screen, flipchart, jugs of iced water, conference sweets, stationery, note pads and pens, free internet access, and dedicated Event Manager. Half Day DDR is £39 per person with only 1 serving of tea and coffee.
What is the minimum spend requirement for food and beverage?
The venue requires a commitment to food and beverage spend in addition to room hire fees. For the Afternoon Tea Package, there is a minimum of 20 people required. The Midland Dinner Package costs £75 per person with a minimum of 250 guests and includes prosecco/beer on arrival, 3-course set menu, half bottle of house wine per person, and room hire from 6pm-1am.
What restrictions apply to external catering and when is it permitted?
External catering is only permitted on Sundays. For all other days, events must use the hotel's catering services. The venue does not permit externally catered events within the hotel Monday through Saturday, which significantly limits flexibility for clients wanting to use their own caterers.
Can public areas like the staircase be used for events or photoshoots?
Public areas cannot be booked or cordoned off as this affects the experience for other hotel guests. The venue cannot guarantee specific public areas would be available and only offers bookable meeting spaces where any furniture can be removed. Events must be contained within the hired private spaces.
How long are provisional bookings held and what is the booking process?
Provisional bookings are typically held for 2 weeks on joint first option while clients make their decision. For events approaching within 2 weeks, shorter hold periods apply (such as until Friday 12pm for events the following week). The venue requires confirmation within the hold period to secure the booking.
What AV equipment is included and what are additional costs?
Standard LCD projector and screen are included in DDR packages. Additional AV requirements are handled by Sterling Event Group at extra cost - a 7ft LCD screen with projector costs £150, and a 6-speaker PA system with 2 microphones costs £375. All AV beyond basic projection is sold separately through their suppliers.
What events does The Midland not accommodate?
The Midland does not host proms or certain types of events that don't align with their venue positioning. They focus on corporate events, conferences, private dining, weddings, and upscale social events rather than student or youth-oriented celebrations.
What are the accommodation rates for event delegates?
Double bedrooms for single occupancy including breakfast cost £159 per person at The Midland or £105 per person at the sister property Manchester Central. There is an additional Manchester City visitor tax of £1.00 per room per night. 24-hour delegate rates including accommodation, dinner and conference facilities range from £282 per person.
