What are the room hire costs and minimum spend requirements for different time slots?
The Common Room has three pricing options: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM costs £3,600 + VAT with £3,000 minimum spend on food and drinks; 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM costs £2,300 + VAT with £1,500 minimum spend; and 6:00 PM – 11:00 PM costs £2,750 + VAT with £5,000 minimum spend. Weekend events require a minimum spend of £10,000 + VAT.
What are the capacity limits for different seating arrangements in the Common Room?
The Common Room can accommodate up to 96 guests cabaret style with catering served in the room, 144 guests cabaret with catering in a different room, 150 theatre style with catering in the room, 180 guests seated on round tables with stage setup, or up to 244 theatre style with catering in an adjacent space. For dinner and dance events, capacity is up to 160 guests.
What AV equipment is included and what are the additional costs?
Standard AV package costs £400 + VAT and includes stage, screen/projector, two repeater screens, lectern and lectern mic, handheld mic, and PA system. An AV technician is provided to assist with setup for conference packages.
What catering options and pricing are available for private events?
Two-course dinner costs £57 + VAT per person. Christmas packages start at £172 + VAT per person (minimum 50 guests) including exclusive hire, prosecco on arrival, three-course meal, wine, DJ and dance floor. Ceremony packages cost £52.50 + VAT per person (minimum 300 guests) or £47.50 + VAT with finger food buffet.
Are there restrictions on when events can be held and what's prohibited?
The building is typically closed on weekends, requiring higher minimum spends for weekend events. The on-site restaurant does not serve food throughout August. During weekdays, the building is open to the public and Law Society members, which may affect filming or exclusive use requirements.
What additional services and fees should I budget for?
Security is included in most packages. Photo booth hire starts from £950 + VAT. Canapes cost £14.50 + VAT per person (3 per person). Uplighters for ambience are included in dinner packages. All prices exclude VAT at 20%.
What spaces are available for drinks receptions and breakout areas?
The Reading Room is suitable for drinks receptions with poseur tables and bar setup. For ceremony packages, prosecco reception is held in the Reading Room while the ceremony takes place in the Common Room. Adjacent spaces can be used for catering and breaks when the main room reaches capacity.
What is included in the venue's event management services?
All packages include a dedicated team on the day, digital signage with personalised welcome signs, directional signage, complimentary Wi-Fi, cloakroom facilities (unmanned), and registration table setup. Christmas events include shared tasting sessions closer to the event date.
How far in advance should I book and what is the booking process?
The venue offers provisional holds for 7 days while clients consider options. Site visits can be arranged with the Sales and Marketing Manager, with meetings typically available between 09:30-16:30 on weekdays. Early access for organisers is provided 1 hour before event start time.
What are the access and arrival procedures for guests?
The venue is located at 113 Chancery Lane, London WC2A 1PL. Upon arrival, guests are welcomed by the reception security team who notify the events team. The venue features a sweeping marble staircase leading to the Common Room, which is the largest and most prestigious space.
