What are the room hire costs and capacity limits for different event spaces?
The Wilberforce Room costs £2,450-£3,100 + VAT per day and holds up to 250 theatre style, 180 cabaret, or 300 standing. The Riverside Room costs £2,000-£2,350 + VAT per day for up to 100 cabaret/theatre or 250 standing reception, with its own private terrace for additional capacity. The Muscovado Hall can be hired with the Riverside Room for £7,600 + VAT (combined hire 18:30-23:00) for larger events up to 350 people.
What are the standard event timings and access hours?
Standard daytime events run 09:00-17:00, with access typically from 08:00-08:30. Evening events commonly run 18:00-23:00 or 18:30-23:00. Christmas party packages run 18:30-23:00 with 1-hour early access to certain areas included in the package pricing.
What AV equipment is included in room hire and what are additional costs?
All rooms include projector, screen, PA system with 1 handheld mic, and Wi-Fi at no extra charge. Additional services cost extra: AV technician £250-£350 + VAT, extra microphones £50 + VAT each, stage setup £500-£600 + VAT, and additional uplighters £25 + VAT each (4 uplighters included free).
What catering options and pricing are available through the in-house caterer?
Bovingdons is the in-house caterer providing all food and beverage services. Christmas packages start from £107-£162 + VAT per person (minimum 150 people) including venue hire, canapés, bowls, unlimited drinks, and cloakroom. Daytime catering packages start from £50-£60 + VAT per person including multiple tea/coffee services, lunch buffet, and refreshments.
Can I use external suppliers or am I restricted to in-house services?
The venue works with Bovingdons as their house caterer for all food and beverage requirements. There is a list of approved external caterers available on page 8 of their brochure, but all catering arrangements must go through their approved supplier network rather than completely external providers.
What is the booking process and how far in advance should I book?
Popular dates are held on 'second option' while other enquiries are considered, and the venue will deadline competing clients if you're ready to contract. Christmas party bookings are encouraged well in advance as dates fill quickly. The venue requires confirmation of timings, catering requirements, and guest numbers before providing final quotations.
Are there any capacity restrictions or event type limitations I should know about?
Maximum capacity is 250 people seated (theatre style) or 300 standing in individual rooms. For events requiring more than 300 people, exclusive hire of multiple spaces is required. The venue cannot accommodate events requiring 500+ people in a single space, and filming requires separate arrangements with 5-day minimum bookings.
What makes this venue unique compared to other London event spaces?
London Museum Docklands is Canary Wharf's only Grade 1 listed venue, housed in a splendid late Georgian warehouse. The venue offers guided tours as part of packages, access to museum galleries and exhibitions as backdrops, and the Riverside Room features its own private terrace with views of West India Quay for outdoor reception space.
Do you offer charity rates or discounts for non-profit organizations?
Yes, the venue offers charity discounts for qualifying non-profit events. In one example, a charity event received a discount of £1,384 off the total room hire cost, though specific discount percentages and eligibility criteria would need to be confirmed directly with the events team.
What are the contact details and working hours for the events team?
The main events contact is Cristina Giudice (Events Sales & Marketing Manager) at cgiudice@londonmuseum.org.uk or 020 7814 5516. Her working days are Monday to Thursday 9:30am-5:15pm. On Fridays, contact venuehire@londonmuseum.org.uk. For general enquiries, use docklandsevents@londonmuseum.org.uk.
