As one of the oldest and most spacious venues in London, the Porter Tun is a stunning space perfect for large events such as conferences, awards evenings, exhibitions and fashion shows. Features include an exposed King Post timber roof giving a span of 60ft above a 778 square metre antique wooden floor, along with a large raised balcony ideal for a presentation platform or reception area. This space is fully air controlled and has natural daylight. The Malt Room can be booked as a green room.




Frequently asked questions

The Retreat summer party package costs £99.00 per person excluding VAT and accommodates 30 to 800 guests. The package includes diverse street food stalls, sustainable wine selection, refreshing cocktails from the bespoke London Essence bar, and exclusive Helles Lager brewed with Braybrooke Brewery. Limited dates remain for July and August.

The Sugar Rooms consist of two interconnecting rooms - the Upper Sugar Room for main plenary sessions and Lower Sugar Room for separate catering areas. The Retreat courtyard accommodates 30 to 800 guests. The Grubstreet Cellars include the Pasteur Room for dinners with the Sample Room for drink receptions, featuring their own private entrance and cloakroom.

Christmas dates cannot be held due to high demand and operate on a first-come, first-served basis. The venue features a new theme each December - for 2025, it's 'The Midnight Carnival' theme. Daytime Christmas events have access from 7am until 5pm, as evening Christmas parties run from 6pm onwards.

Day Delegate Rates range from £85-£155 per person excluding VAT depending on the package and space. A two-day conference for 80-90 people with Queen Charlotte and catering would cost approximately £18,000-£25,000 excluding VAT. Corporate strategy days for 60-85 people in Smeaton Vaults cost around £6,800-£9,365 excluding VAT including catering and basic AV.

Security/Fire Marshals are mandatory at £395-£474 per guard excluding VAT (typically 1 per 100 guests). Minimum AV spend requirements range from £1,000-£35,000 excluding VAT depending on event size and technical needs. Brewery Technical Support Managers cost £900 per manager excluding VAT for complex events.

Standard daytime events typically run 7am-5:30pm with evening events from 6pm-1am. Setup access can begin from 6-7am for large conferences requiring load-in time. Overnight holds of venue spaces are available for multi-day events at additional cost ranging from £42,993-£48,000 excluding VAT.

Sugar Rooms offer natural light and interconnecting spaces perfect for conferences with separate catering areas. Smeaton Vaults work well for corporate events with cabaret layouts. The Pasteur Room in Grubstreet Cellars is ideal for private dinners with its own entrance and cloakroom. King George III suits large dinner events and awards ceremonies.

Food Stall lunches are included in Day Delegate Rates with water and cordials. The Brew Coffee Shop breaks cost extra beyond minimum included breaks. Christmas party packages include 3-course dinners, canapés, and unlimited drinks packages. Canape packages for receptions cost approximately £22.80 per person excluding VAT.

Initial enquiries receive proposals within a few days, with site visits available to help visualize events. Some dates are offered on '2nd option' when another event is holding first option, with updates provided soon. The venue uses a first-come, first-served policy for high-demand periods like Christmas.

Basic audio PA systems are included in Day Delegate Rates. Additional AV requirements like projectors, screens, lecterns with microphones, and technical support incur minimum spend commitments ranging from £1,000-£35,000 excluding VAT. Complex events require Brewery Technical Support Managers at £900 per manager excluding VAT.
