Frequently asked questions
When is Shoreditch Town Hall unavailable for bookings?
The venue is completely unavailable from late June through July, August, and September due to large rehearsals that occupy the entire venue. Additionally, from 24th November to 17th December, the venue hosts KIN London's Christmas Social and is not available for other bookings outside of that partnership.
What types of events are not permitted at Shoreditch Town Hall?
Due to the listed status of the building and the nature of their cultural programme, club nights are not permitted. Sporting events are also not allowed, despite the venue's historical use as a boxing venue. The venue operates a fully curated cultural programme, meaning all shows are developed in consultation with the venue.
How does the booking confirmation process work?
No agreement exists until a contract and full terms & conditions are signed by both parties and all hire fees and other charges are paid in full. Any enquiry, discussion or correspondence regarding bookings should never be taken to assume confirmation. The venue reserves the right to vary or cancel hires without becoming liable for any loss or damage.
What is the capacity of the Assembly Hall and what seating arrangements are available?
The Assembly Hall can accommodate up to 500 people in theatre style seating using Matrix seats, with an additional 250 seats available in the balcony. The venue has folding chairs and trestle tables available on site, and external furniture can be sourced if needed.
What catering options are available and are there kitchen facilities?
The venue operates primarily on a dry hire basis, allowing you to source external caterers of your choice. They have featured catering suppliers who have previously worked at the venue. An in-house bar service is available with a separate Bar Hire Guide. There are no permanent kitchens on site, but the Old Servery space adjoining the Assembly Hall can be used by caterers to set up equipment.
What production and AV services can be provided?
Full production services are available in-house including audio, video, and lighting equipment. For smaller spaces like the Council Chamber, they can provide speakers, projectors, and monitors. Bespoke production quotes are provided based on specific requirements, with details available in their Production Guide.
Who is responsible for setup and breakdown of the event space?
It is the hirer's responsibility to set up and clear down the space unless discussed with the venue in advance. If the venue assists with setup, this time will be factored into the hire period. The venue has folding chairs and trestle tables available on site for events.
How does the provisional booking system work?
Dates can be held as first option (provisional hold), second option (when another event already has provisional hold), or third option (when there are already two events pencilled). If a higher priority booking falls through, lower options are contacted to see if they're still interested in proceeding.
What spaces are available besides the Assembly Hall?
The venue offers eight unique spaces including the Council Chamber (suitable for smaller events and meetings), the Mayor's Parlour, the Large Committee Room (good for filming with period features and natural light), and The Ditch (intimate basement spaces). Each space has different capacities and features detailed in their Events Guide.
Are there any special Christmas party packages available?
Yes, from 26th November to 12th December 2025, the venue hosts KIN's Christmas Social concept for 150-500 guests. Parties run Tuesday-Friday with packages including KERB's street food, unlimited drinks, and glamorous theming. Alternative dates like 2nd and 9th December, plus 26th and 28th November may be available outside this partnership.
