What is the maximum dining capacity and seating arrangements available?
The maximum capacity for seated dining is 260 guests using long tables. The Queen's Room accommodates up to 22 people in boardroom dinner style. For larger groups of 300, only standing reception with canapés or bowl food is possible.
Can I use external caterers for my dining event?
External caterers are not permitted. However, for Asian weddings, specific approved Asian caterers can be used with a kitchen buy-out fee of £5,000 + VAT (£6,000 including VAT). All catering must go through Middle Temple's in-house team or pre-approved suppliers.
What days are unavailable due to Hall Lunches and other restrictions?
Hall Lunches take place Tuesday through Friday, making the venue unavailable for private dining events on these days during lunch hours. Weddings are only offered on Saturday or Sunday. Some dates may be completely unavailable due to large events requiring all rooms.
What additional mandatory costs should I budget for dining events?
Staff taxi fees of £250-£300 + VAT apply for events ending after 22:30. Cloakroom staff cost £25 + VAT per hour (4-hour minimum) if manned service is required. Event security is £42 + VAT per hour per staff member (1 per 100 guests). Clothed poseur tables are £25 + VAT each.
What AV equipment is available for dining events with speeches or presentations?
The Queen's Room has no built-in AV equipment, so all audio-visual needs must be hired from accredited suppliers. PA systems with handheld microphones are available for speeches. The venue provides a list of approved AV suppliers for screens, projectors, and lighting equipment.
What are the booking and payment requirements for dining events?
Dates can be held on a pencil hold basis while finalizing details. Minimum guest numbers apply (typically 20 for lunch packages, 55 for some dinner packages). All pricing is subject to VAT, and full event management and staffing are included in catering packages.
What dining event formats and timings are available?
Standard dining hours are 09:00-17:00, with evening events typically 18:00-23:00. Christmas parties run 18:00-23:00 or until midnight. Three-course meals, buffets, bowl food, and canapé receptions are all available. Drinks receptions can precede seated dining.
