Frequently asked questions

What are the minimum spend requirements for The Ned's dining spaces?
Minimum spends vary by room: The Drawing Room requires £3,250 including VAT for up to 26 guests, The Tapestry Room requires £7,500 including VAT for up to 80 guests, and The Saloon & Drawing Room combination requires £15,000 including VAT for larger events. All food and beverage consumed during your event counts toward this spend, with any shortfall charged as room hire.
What are the capacity limits for different dining setups?
The Tapestry Room accommodates up to 80 guests in cabaret style or on round tables, while The Drawing Room seats up to 26 guests boardroom style or 30 on three round tables. For larger events, The Saloon can seat up to 70 guests, and when combined with The Drawing Room, can accommodate receptions for up to 100 guests standing.
What are the standard access hours and can they be extended?
Standard access is typically 8:00am-5:00pm for daytime events and 6:30pm-midnight for evening events. Some spaces offer access from 9:00am-5:00pm for meetings, with organizers and suppliers welcomed from 5:00pm for evening setup. Music must be off at midnight and this timing cannot be extended.
What additional costs should I budget beyond the minimum spend?
A mandatory 14.5% discretionary service charge applies to all catering consumption. AV equipment and any third-party elements like flowers are additional costs on top of the minimum spend. These charges are not included in the minimum food and beverage spend.
What dining menu options and price ranges are available?
The venue offers various menu tiers including a £109 Chairman's private dining set menu, £119-£134 seasonal festive menus, and choice menus starting from £114-£129. For smaller groups under 30 guests, à la carte options are available in certain spaces.
Are there restrictions on guest numbers for certain event types?
Yes, capacity is subject to AV requirements and layout needs. For awards ceremonies or events requiring everyone to face a screen/stage, maximum capacity drops to 80 guests even in larger spaces. Theatre-style layouts also reduce capacity compared to standing receptions.
What AV capabilities are available and how do they affect capacity?
The venue can provide screens, microphones, and presentation equipment, but AV requirements may reduce room capacity. For presentations, additional screens on the sides are recommended for larger groups to ensure visibility from the back of the room.
How far in advance should I book and what is the hold policy?
The venue offers 5-day optional holds upon request for confirmed availability. For certain dates, particularly midweek events, the venue may require multiday events alongside group accommodation, making single-day bookings unavailable on some dates.
What are the booking requirements for different group sizes?
Groups of 12 or fewer may not constitute a group booking and would need to use individual reservations rather than private hire. The venue has specific minimum spend thresholds that increase with group size, starting from £3,250 for small meetings up to £21,000+ for large receptions.
Can events run past midnight and what are the music restrictions?
Events must end by midnight with music switched off at this time - this timing cannot be extended. Access typically ends at midnight for evening events, though some daytime events may have 5:00pm end times depending on the space and arrangement.
