The Porter Tun is one of the largest and oldest unobstructed event spaces in London. An exposed King Post timber roof giving a clear span of 60ft above a 778 square metre antique wooden floor makes it a perfect location for conferences, awards dinners, fashion shows and exhibitions. The large raised balcony is ideal for a reception area or presentation platform. The Malt Room is able to be booked as a green room.




Frequently asked questions

The Retreat summer party package is priced at £99.00 per person excluding VAT. The package accommodates 30 to 800 guests and includes diverse street food stalls, sustainable wine selection, refreshing cocktails from the London Essence bar, and exclusive Helles Lager brewed with Braybrooke Brewery. Limited dates remain for July and August.

The venue offers multiple spaces including Sugar Rooms (two interconnecting rooms with natural light), Queen Charlotte (suitable for cabaret layouts), Smeaton Vaults (available as a pair), King George III, Grubstreet Cellars (with private entrance and cloakroom), and James Watt. The Porter Tun is described as one of London's largest unobstructed event spaces at 778 square metres with a raised balcony.

DDR packages range from £85-£155.25 per person excluding VAT depending on the event requirements. Standard DDR includes exclusive room hire, audio PA system, Food Stall lunch with water and cordials, coffee breaks, complimentary snacks, iced water throughout the day, full event management support, complimentary cloakroom, Wi-Fi connectivity, LED lighting systems, and digital room signage.

Security/Fire Marshals are mandatory at £395-£474 per guard excluding VAT (1 required per 100 guests). Minimum AV spend commitments range from £1,000-£35,000 excluding VAT depending on event size and requirements. Brewery Technical Support Manager services cost £900-£1,080 excluding VAT when required.

Christmas party packages range from £145-£169 per person excluding VAT with minimum numbers typically 60-250 guests. Packages include exclusive room hire, Christmas theming, entertainers on arrival, sparkling wine and cocktail reception, unlimited house wine/beer/softs for 5.5 hours, three-course dinner or standing menu, striking table displays, after-dinner DJ, and full event management support.

The venue operates on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot hold dates for Christmas events due to high demand. For popular dates like Christmas parties, booking well in advance is essential. The venue offers dates on 1st option (confirmed) or 2nd option (provisional hold pending another event's decision).

Exclusive venue hire varies significantly by space and duration. Examples include King George III at £8,000-£13,000 excluding VAT for evening hire, full venue hire ranging from £23,493-£72,000 excluding VAT depending on spaces included and duration. Overnight holds of the full venue cost approximately £42,993-£48,000 excluding VAT.

Catering options include Food Stall lunch (included in DDR), canapes at £22.80 per person excluding VAT, reception packages at £93-£111.60 per person excluding VAT including drinks, and dinner packages at £110-£132 per person excluding VAT. Three-course dinners include coffee, petit fours, wine, and sparkling reception.

The Porter Tun offers 778 square metres of unobstructed space suitable for large conferences and awards dinners. Queen Charlotte works well for cabaret setups accommodating 80-90 delegates. Sugar Rooms work as interconnecting spaces for plenaries and separate catering areas. Smeaton Vaults can accommodate theatre layouts and work well as a pair for events.

Standard AV includes audio PA systems, projectors, screens, lecterns with microphones, and technical support. Minimum AV spends range from £1,000-£35,000 excluding VAT depending on event complexity. Brewery Technical Support Managers are available at £900 excluding VAT and technical install crews are included in AV packages.
