Some of our favourite venues are the ones that aren't limited to a single function. Paradise by Way of Kensal Green defines this sense of versatility, in that it welcomes groups of all sizes for the gamut of events, from a chilled-out drinks session to a private, three-course dinner.
The impressive venue is able to succeed in this way due to its various distinct spaces. There's the colourful and quaint Private Dining Room, whose walls are adorned with graceful stag antlers and tables with elegant candlesticks; and the Reading Room, where leather-back chairs and gold picture frames create a sense of history and mystery from bygone days. For weddings, The Music Room is a romantic space for up to 50 guests, licensed until 2 am; and The Conservatory is a peerless choice for summer marriages, with the warmth of natural daylight shining through the glass roof.
A private dinner is a certain highlight: dinner parties for 10 to 50 guests are a core part of what Paradise does, with its emphasis on locally sourced British food. Sit-down dinner guests may find themselves tucking into such gastronomic treats as slow-roasted lamb shoulder with parsnip purée, confit duck with black cabbage, and monkfish with pearl barley and tarragon crème fraîche. If preferred, a more casual drinks-and-canapés format can be organised, for up to 150 people.
Although we admit it's on most of our minds for most of the day, food doesn't have to be the centre of your experience at Paradise. Club nights are a regular staple, Thursdays to Saturdays, with eclectic upcoming events including the hip-hop- and reggae-centric Rum & Tings, a funk and soul night called Paradise Sessions and a New Year's Eve Masked Ball. Partygoers may want to book a room for late-night drinks with table service, while birthday boys and girls can reserve a private room for their celebratory night.
There's no denying that Kensal Green may be an unusual area for a venue, but the paradisiacal space is actually easily accessible via the Bakerloo Line. Moreover, it's absolutely worth the trip, whether for a delicious dinner party, a wedding to remember, or even a quirky photo or video shoot. There's no wonder the venue's motto is "Home of the restless and eclectic".
