The Marble Hall was built in the mid eighteenth century and its grandeur still captures the imagination to this day. It is perhaps the most dramatic entrance hall in all of England. Light and airy, the Marble Hall provides a stunning backdrop for a wedding or civil partnership. It is a large space and can comfortably seat 142 guests on the ground floor and 170 guests if the side balconies are used. The Marble Hall is also available for a drinks reception following a ceremony in one of the state rooms.
If you'd like something informal and bespoke for you event, then a marquee at the Temple or the Walled Garden can offer this opportunity. The Temple is tucked away in the woods in Holkham Park, giving it a very special intimacy for a smaller event. The eighteenth century six acre walled garden is undergoing sensitive restoration to return it to its former glory. The possibilities are endless. The Saloon was designed for entertaining and nothing has changed in this respect since the middle of the 18th century making it an ideal setting for wedding ceremonies. Features include the original, richly coloured crimson wall hangings made of a combination of wool, linen and silk known as caffoy. The impressive Old Master paintings by Rubens and Van Dyck dominate the room. With its lofty, gilded ceiling, the grandest in the house, the Saloon is simply designed to impress.
The setting of the Statue Gallery is superb with richly coffered apses at either end of the room copied from the Temple of the Sun and Moon in Rome. The Statue Gallery contains an impressive selection of classical statuary and the decorated ceilings in the tribunes, eighteenth century chandeliers and gilding add touches of glamour to otherwise simply decorated space, creating an elegant look to which couples can add their own special touches.
