In 1937 the Guildhall, built in classical style of the 1930s, was opened. Incorporated into the building of the Guildhall was the John Compton Dual Console Pipe Organ. A unique instrument taking two years to build, surviving WWII without a scratch, and It is still in working order today and played at Civil and graduation ceremonies. In the 70s & 80s a different sound arrived at the Guildhall, Rock bands. Then after extensive refurbishment by AMG O2 Guildhall Southampton has now become the South's largest multipurpose entertainment venue. Hosting some of the biggest names in music.
