The Saloon was designed for entertaining and nothing has changed in this respect since the middle of the 18th century making it an ideal setting for wedding ceremonies. Features include the original, richly coloured crimson wall hangings made of a combination of wool, linen and silk known as caffoy. The impressive Old Master paintings by Rubens and Van Dyck dominate the room. With its lofty, gilded ceiling, the grandest in the house, the Saloon is simply designed to impress.
